Teach ‘em young

There is a bit of a nasty chest/throat/cough bug going round at the moment.  DH is on his 3rd day in bed, and now little DS has caught it, so they’re both in our bed suffering as only men know how to suffer.  He’s only 3, bless him, but he’s coming on a treat in his Man Flu lessons.  I shouldn’t really, but I think its quite funny.  Needless to say, I’d make a hopeless nurse!

Just when I thought the time was right….

for a few pretty pics to liven things up, the camera decides to Be Naughty! The fault was intermittent, but it seems to have become permanent with this last batch of photos, so off to the menders it will have to go.  I don’t often get enthusiastic about updating my ravelry projects. It’s such a long winded procedure (’tis for me, anyway), so that bit will have to wait…again!

Well, I’m going to show you a pic anyway.  It’s about the best of the bunch.  I had the pleasure of meeting Thomasina at the weekend and later, as you do, looked her up in blogland only to discovered her lovely Berry Hill fingerless mittens pattern.  Just what I was looking for to show off what you can do with one ball of Buttersoft dk!  So here is dodgy pic…..

It is in Rainbow, and is much brighter than shown here, but you get the idea?  I love how it has patterned.  A bit sockish as it is done on circs and I really like how the striping has been stretched and pushed back when the number of stitches changes.  I’m hoping the other one will stripe up differently on the hand  - I started at a different place in the colour sequence on purpose.  I’m taking it to knitting tonight which means I will need markers for the gusset this time!  I’m really pleased with how the broken twisted rib has come out.  It gives a lovely texture.

If you’d like to see Rainbow in the shop, say Aye, and I’ll do some.  This particular batch is for a very exciting event coming up soon…….

Happy knitting :)

Introducing Buttersoft DK

“Your stuff’s lovely, but it’s all very thin”   Well, thin no longer!

Buttersoft DK  is 100% Superwash Extra Fine Merino, and it is…welll butter soft!  This means yes, you can chuck in in the washing machine at 40 degrees on the wool cycle.  Need I say, perfect for kiddie stuff!  There’ll be 5 or 10 of each colour, but as it’s a double knit and therefore suitable for any DK project big or small, then the custom dye option is there for you to order as many skeins as you like.  Just email with your colour requirements, and the batch will be dyed specially.  No extra cost!

Here’s a little bit!

This hat and gloves takes 3 skeins, and here is a close up.  Lovely to knit with, and smooth stitch definition

And here it is ably modelled by DD

Ahh, that’s better

You know when you lose confidence in what you are doing, and get wracked with doubt that you are doing the right thing?  Well that was me today, and the last few days, if truth be known.  Really down in the dumps.  But two things have changed that.

Firstly the lovely ladies, my new friends, at the knit and natter, where the conversations rolled gently round and ebbed and flowed in a way I haven’t experienced anywhere else.  I’m glad I went. I so nearly didn’t.

Secondly, I received a new delivery of yarn and fibre, a huge boxful, and I am really excited about a couple of new yarns I’ll be trying.  One is an aran weight in baby alpaca, merino and bamboo for you guys who fancy something a bit thicker.  I am going to bag some of this one because I have been itching to do Ysolda’s Liesl cardigan.  I don’t usually try and knit bigger things for myself-I never finish them-but I can see this in a semi solid deep rose, or perhaps a lavendery blue.

So, thankyou all.  This may just work out. xx

Handpainted Yarn Heaven

We’re building our stock week by week, and this week we have an exciting new addition to the fold. I did some sneak peek pics, but they were all blurred! So you’ll just have to wait! Its a brand new 4ply yarn, and is very luxurious. It is indeed handpainted heaven! It’s just been a bit frustrating not being able to get as much done as I would have liked, especially as we have had splendid drying weather. The kids are off school, see, and are too young to self-entertain for too long, so park/swimming/picnics/country walks it is. Not that I am actually complaining. I am one of a minority, I suspect, who really enjoys them being home. We’ve worked hard to enable me to be at home as much as poss, and I truly feel lucky that I can spend so much time with them:-)

I’ve also been experimenting with Sweet Feet. It’s such a lovely 4ply that I thought it would work really well for baby clothes. Its super soft, anti-bac and machine washable. I’ve a little something to show you just to prove I was right (I like being right!). I’ll post progress separately so it can go in the gallery.
